Winter Skincare Tips

December 29th, 2009

For me, I’ve always found that I suffer more acne breakouts in the wintertime.  The air is dryer, your skin tends to get chapped and red anyway, and yes, you can definitely get windburn as opposed to sunburn in the summer.  The sun also reflects off the snow, making sunburns worse.  But if you want to treat acne, obviously you should keep using acne treatments that work and be consistent, extremely consistent.  Maybe add in a mask now and then to help.

But also you have to remember to moisturize.  The big thing to worry about is avoiding that dry and chapped skin, the red skin.  So for starters, wear sunscreen.  Be careful of course as always of the sunscreens that are thick enough to clog pores.  But this will help to protect your skin.

Also, don’t think about necessarily using a thicker moisturizer.  Just use the same moisturizer more often.  Make sure that it doesn’t have nasty preservatives, and I would recommend using a water based moisturizer.  They tend to be light and yet penetrating and effective.  So instead of applying one time per day and thinking it will stick, apply 3 times per day.

And finally, use a night cream.  A night cream is really the repairing element, and while a day cream protects, well a night cream is extremely effective in actually repairing damage such as sun or wind damage and therefore keeping your skin in better shape in general.  It can be thicker, because the pores open more up at night.

What Can Aspirin Masks Do For Acne

October 1st, 2009

I have heard about aspirin masks, and I have often asked myself, what can aspirin masks do for me?  I mean really, it’s just aspirin.  I take it for headaches, and generally speaking it takes time to set in.  They say that you’re only supposed to leave an aspirin mask on for a few minutes.  All this being said, what can it even do in that time, and will it still pose some of the risks or for that matter provide some of the heart benefits of taking aspirin internally.  There are quite a few questions I would have about aspirin masks.

This being said, I looked into aspirin masks to determine the facts.  Aspirin works considerably faster when you apply it topically to the skin.  Basically, you are crushing up these little tablets and you are ideally speaking reducing inflammation.  It will work quickly, especially when mixed with water, to get into your skin, and as it dries, it pulls the skin tighter.  When you wash it off with warm water, some of it stays in there and keeps going in the reducing inflammation process.  So what can aspirin masks do?  A whole lot actually.

I tried aspirin masks, because I am not allergic to them, and frankly they do not cause any adverse reactions that I saw and I’ve never seen reports of adverse reactions with aspirin masks.  Aspirin masks are extremely effective in reducing your acne by just reducing inflammation and allowing bacteria to get out.  But if you want the real results, the combination of aspirin masks with regular acne treatments is truly the best thing to do.

More About Proactiv Green Tea Moisturizer

September 29th, 2009

The Proactiv line has been a popular one ever since introduced.  It has been known for its ability to get rid of acne, its celebrity endorsements, and for that matter quite frankly its dermatologist developed formula.  It has been one of the most popular infomercial products to ever hit the market, and I would honestly be surprised if anyone hadn’t heard of it.

This being said, quite frankly speaking their most recent introduction is actually called the Proactiv Green Tea Moisturizer.  This green tea moisturizer not only has the idea of actually counteracting many of the side effects associated with benzoyl peroxide and for that matter Proactiv in general.  Green tea is also a popular antioxidant that could potentially kill off many harmful substances and brighten the skin without causing any side effects of its own.

I have used and checked into the Proactiv Green Tea Moisturizer.  The green tea moisturizer would ideally provide all the benefits they talk about, except for actually counteracting the bad effects of benzoyl peroxide.  It is not that strong at all.  It will not give you the soothing effects, because it is competing with benzoyl peroxide to say the least.

But there’s also the fact that as you might expect, they don’t actually have the right moisturizers, they don’t have the right amount of green tea.  Just like other Proactiv products, this is far more likely to clog the pores and cause more damage rather than good to the skin as a whole.  Therefore, you would easily be far better off using something else, something else that would actually have the right effect in general.

Summer Acne

September 25th, 2009

Summer acne is rather a common occurrence.  You are being exposed to more sun and sweat, which naturally produces more oils, and we can’t always hop into the shower at every convenience to keep skin clear and otherwise clean.  I’ve experienced far more summer acne than any other season of the year, and it presents various problems of course.  But the results remain quite a bit the same.  First of all, you really have to remember to wash your face morning and night.  It’s more important not to forget though.

This being said, you should follow this up with a good toner ideally speaking that will help you to really balance out the pH levels of your skin and otherwise control shine and also minimize pores with ingredients like witch hazel.  Finally, you want to remember to always clean your sheets and pillowcase on a regular basis.  Keeping these clean is important, because otherwise a lot of oils are prone to build up on the skin, and frankly speaking, you will do yourself a considerable favor just by doing this, because quite frankly, the extra care keeps you from breaking out and suffering that generalized embarrassment, which is a big deal for many for understandable reasons.

Zinc As An Acne Treatment

September 23rd, 2009

Zinc is one of those big vitamins that everybody should have in their regular diet and moreover in their system in general.  Without zinc, you will surely suffer greater acne among of course various other things, and that’s never really a good thing at all.  This being said, the reality is that zinc is essential to your body’s ability to produce healthy cells in general.  It basically helps you to heal wounds, acne problems, and otherwise at a higher rate so that you avoid having acne scars and get rid of zits at an accelerated rate among other things.

This being said, it also helps you to avoid getting sick and protect the liver, insulin, and sexual functions in general.  They’ve also of course found that quite frankly zinc deficiencies are more likely to cause acne, hair loss, appetite loss, skin lesions, slow growth, fatigue, diarrhea, allergies, low immune function, delayed healing and therefore acne scars, and impotence.  Pregnant women especially should take more zinc not only to avoid acne, but also to avoid many of the other health problems that often come with zinc deficiencies and other issues.  But even in greater amounts than you would need to simply avoid a deficiency, you can always benefit from the use of zinc.

Birth Control For Acne Treatment

September 23rd, 2009

Frankly speaking, just about any birth control pill could potentially affect your fight against acne.  I have used a few of them, because sometimes you develop allergies, suddenly they stop working as well and you can tell by your period, etc.  Basically speaking, the first few months of any birth control pill are going to be unpredictable, and if they result in mood changes for example, it’s not necessarily that you should swear off birth control all together.  It’s that you actually need to try another type entirely.

It can be very useful and it also prevents acne, ovarian cysts, and endometriosis among other things.  Granted, they can also come with their risks and side effects, especially if you smoke for example.  But this being said, I would advise you to do your research.  The fact is that many birth control pills tend to be different.  So you will come across countless different reactions to the same exact birth control, because every woman is going to react differently.

I personally would have sworn by Yasmin a few years ago, before developing an allergy.  But this being said, times change, and since then I have been through a few different ones to find one that really worked well for me.  Likewise, many women will go through the same thing.  But once you find one that covers all your needs, I would definitely stick with it.

Teas For Acne Control

September 22nd, 2009

There have been various teas used throughout the ages to treat your acne problems.  In general terms, you will find this out, and there are a few different types of teas that have been used.  First of all, aloe vera is a major tea.  Most people don’t necessarily think about aloe vera as a tea.  But this being said, aloe vera accelerates the skin’s natural rate of healing, and it otherwise helps you to achieve better results in diminishing and preventing scars.  Likewise, green tea works as a powerful antioxidant, which naturally helps you to get rid of bacteria and free radicals harming the skin and causing acne.

And finally there is tea tree oil.  Tea tree oil is a well known acne treatment.  It has been tested on its own and against benzoyl peroxide, and it’s just as effective without actually causing greater side effects among other things.  So this is definitely something to choose and something to benefit from.  Tea tree oil comes actually not from tea leaves, but from the melaleuca tree in Australia.  Basically speaking, if you are looking to get rid of acne and improve your skin in general, teas are one of the best ways to do it.  You have to look into various types of teas of course.  But they can truly be helpful in all the ways you are looking for.

Acne Conglobata

September 21st, 2009

A severe and uncommon form of acne, acne conglobata hits only in adulthood, and quite frankly it results in deep and burrowing scars that generally come in sets. It also has interconnected abscesses in many cases. It can be quite disfiguring to say the least, and unfortunately there is actually no way to prevent the scarring and other problems in general. It can be found on any area of the body when it should occur, and they have not found an official cause, though it seems to be somewhat genetic in many cases.

This being said, there are some who would suggest that when pustular acne suddenly disappears, it appears instead, in replacement. They also say it may be acne that has laid dormant and suddenly decides to make its appearance. The only treatment that has actually been shown to be effective for this particular type of acne has been Accutane at this point in time. Unfortunately, once the scarring has occurred, it isn’t going away. So the best treatment would be to have them cut out and once that is healed have microdermabrasion to heal any other scars that happen to be left, and they often are. But as far as treatment, you have to use Accutane and then wait it out.

Bergamot Oil As An Acne Treatment

September 17th, 2009

Bergamot is the tree known as citrus bergamia, and it has been used to create an essential oil using the peel of the fruit therefore created.  It has been used popularly to treat anger, anxiety, boils, cold sores, acne, abscesses, cold sores, coughs, cystitis, depression, fatigue, fevers, halitosis, insecurity, itching, tension, and to help wounds to heal at a faster rate.  It has also been used as an effective anti depressant.

It is actually found quite commonly in many different cosmetics, and it is completely natural and without known side effects at this time.  Essentially speaking, for any given treatment, if you are mixing it, you only need a couple drops in general, and even in a hot bath, you really only need a few drops to make that difference.  It can easily be found in various health stores and other stores across the internet and your local area.  Either way, it is helpful and refreshing to the skin, and it will really give you the effectiveness you are looking for.  You would not be mistaken to use bergamot oil, and obviously speaking it can help you to see other benefits that you wouldn’t necessarily expect.

Severe Acne

September 16th, 2009

I had a friend in college times who it subsequently became rather awkward with for other reasons.  But before that point, frankly he had some of the worst acne I had ever seen.  If you could ever see acne that was so prevalent and so bad that it practically swelled someone’s eyes shut, this would be it.  It was that bad.  And then one day, he came back, and it was gone.  It was almost overnight.  Actually, I hadn’t seen him in about a week, and it wasn’t just most of it was gone.  All of it was completely gone.

He still won’t tell anybody to this day what it was he used, and I can’t figure out why.  I mean even microdermabrasion, I’ve never seen it actually work that fast.  I’ve seen some seriously successful acne treatments.  But that’s dramatic to say the least.  We have before and after pictures, not taken close up, but just in groups.  Otherwise, you can be sure that nobody would actually believe it.  I mean I’ve seen those cases on commercials, and this would without question be considered a severe case.  Even their worst options on commercials don’t even come close to this.  So to this day, I am still trying to figure out how exactly he managed to pull it off.
